Technique Level 4
Moving strings
Getting fast, really fast
Thinking about your up and down stokes and how you move between strings can help you create blistering fast riffs that will blow your mind. Go to lesson.
Double Note Slide
Why slide 1 when you can do 2
Sliding up with 2 notes is tricky in that scale notes do not always have the same space between them – you will know if it works by the sound but look at your scales instead of guessing. Go to lesson.
Hammer-pull-hammer
bouncing notes
This is a hammer-on then a pull-off then a hammer-on which ends up playing 4 notes super fast. Also heaps of fun. Go to lesson.
Harmonics
Crisp little finishing notes
Harmonics have a few stand out spots where you can hold your finger just lightly touching the sting above a fret and a clean crisp ringing will come out when picked. Go to lesson.
Slide pull
Smooth
The slide pull uses a trick of sliding with two fingers down on the same string then moving straight into a pull-off in one smooth movement. Go to lesson.
Hammer-slide
Stop.. Hammer-slide
The hammer slide is a super fast three note movement that is a great start to a lead sequence. You can also chain them for a great ascending run. Go to lesson.
Bend
Making the guitar wail
Bends are awesome. The trick is hitting the next note in your scale rather than a half-fumbled mess (there is a reason this is level 4 – bad bends are horrible). Go to lesson.
Vibrato
Finish in style
Vibrato is a little vibration of the note itself going in and out of tune. It adds a warmth and style to notes rather than a crisp and clean finsh. Go to lesson.
Descending Slide-pull
Chain these for ultimate style
Using a few quick descending slide pull-offs in a row with a open scale can create a amazing fast and fun riff or lead break. Go to lesson.
